Full day wet lab focusing on oral surgery.  For veterinarians.

Prerequisite: DVMs must have completed at least one extraction lab prior to registration for this course.

An entire day of wet lab will allow participants to improve their oral surgery skills. Participants will have their own workstation, instruments, high-speed handpiece, and their own cadaver specimens (canine and feline).  We will review proper extraction techniques for all the teeth in a canine and feline, periodontal surgery techniques, repair of an oronasal fistula, and repair of a flap with a large defect.

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the instrumentation needed to complete surgical extractions
  • Create an appropriate mucoperiosteal flap for extraction of all teeth in a cat and a dog
  • Perform alveolectomy (buccal bone removal)
  • Properly section all teeth
  • Properly utilize different instruments (elevators and luxators) and techniques to elevate and remove teeth
  • Perform alveoplasty (smoothing of the remaining bone)
  • Release the periosteum to allow for tension free closure
  • Repair an oronasal fistula
  • Understand periodontal disease and treatment options, including: root planing, subgingival curettage, use of perioceutics, and treatment of infraboney defects
  • Have increased skill and confidence so you can treat 95% of the oral disease that you see in your practice every day

All equipment for the laboratory will be provided.  Participants may wish to bring magnification and a scrubtop.

Registration fee includes: Breakfast, lunch, refreshments, seminar, seminar notes, and continuing education credits.
